Online improv is better than a warm slice of Wonder bread.
Flat Improv - Online improv classes, jams, livestreams
Dear best improv friends,

I hereby bestow another online improv newsletter upon you. Greetings!

Lots has happened this year, tons of changes, and I'm sure we'll see that again in 2024. What do you have planned, or want to see changed?

The online improv community is filled with smart, interesting people. I hope to see many of you, hear from you, or even do some stuff together. Tell me what's up by replying to this message! You can also send me links to improv articles or podcasts I should mention in the next newsletter anytime.

Podcasts & Articles

Released a new show called World's Nerdiest Improv Show (WNIS) (weenis) with Katrina Charles. I'm using an immersive environment I built from scratch, and featured a few of the new features of our "studio" in the Dec 21st show (there are more! That TV in the background can resize and hold a guest.. like YOU).

Check it out on YouTube, see what you think.

This show will become much more interactive - LIVE - soon. We're just getting used to the tech (me: pushing buttons to control all the bits while we do the show). But expect to be able to engage with us live in the upcoming weeks as I add those features.

NEXT LIVE SHOW: Dec 28 6:30pm at WGIS TWITCH

Another episode of the Neurodiversity & Improv podcast is up on my Substack

Ep 6 Masking and Improv: Peas in a Pod Scenes

This episode covers the intersection of masking and peas in a pod scenes in improv, after a bit of an infodump about what masking is, and why we do it. I hope it makes sense.

Neurodiversity Show page (with subscribe box): http://flatimprov.com/substack

I feel pretty bad because I forgot to mention the Jock Doc podcast in the previous newsletter. This episode I was a guest in was released shortly before I sent it out. But better late than never?

So... HERE IT IS and you should check this ep out (and their other fun eps and Patreon, of course) that features a whole bunch of characters along with Dr. London & Cameron.

234. Lambert-Eaton Myasthenic Syndrome/Ronda Rutherford (feat. Jen deHaan)

Listen as Dr. London Smith (.com) and his producer Cameron discuss Lambert-Eaton Myasthenic Syndrome with special guest Ronda Rutherford (Jen deHaan).

Last one... I wrote an article version of the Masking and Peas in a Pod episode. It's kind of different from the podcast - I removed some podcast stuff, added new stuff. And kind of cleaned up some ideas. Clarified. You know, that whole "hate being misunderstood" thing I guess.

Find it below:

A solid POV will help you play your character’s game. Learn who your character really is and what they really think, quickly, near the top of the scene.

In this class you will do drills that help you practice establishing and communicating your character POV in different ways. Then get reps doing this in scenes.

You will learn to get into your character’s head quickly so you can get out of yours.

WHEN: Sunday Feb 11, 10am-12pm PT
